Well deserved. I’ve enjoyed using Paper on many occasions.

APP OF THE YEAR!
Apple has named Paper iPad App of the Year. We’re incredibly honored (and a few of us on the team are still scraping our jaws off the floor). We’re lucky to spend our days working on something we love and believe in, and to see creators around the world using Paper to achieve goals of their own.
It’s been an exciting ride for FiftyThree this year. In June, Apple awarded Paper the Apple Design Award. Since then, Paper has been honored to win awards from AIGA, IxDA, Communication Arts and TIME magazine.
Thank you for using Paper, for telling your friends about our app, sharing your work and feedback, and continually collaborating with us to build a better way for making in a world that more often encourages consumption instead.
Today’s honor is as much yours as it is ours. Thank you.
To see all winners, visit the App Store Best of 2012.

I would add a sixth reason: how cool would it be to render out your next idea for a Kickstarter Campaign?

You can choose how many messages to recent messages to show (from 25 to 1000), how many lines are shown in the preview, and toggles to show your avatars in your accounts screen and the ability to use Priority Inbox (if you are using Gmail).

Priority Inbox sounds like an excellent reason to start using Sparrow.

I grabbed one off the shelf and pulled up the app. It immediately recognized that I was in an Apple retail store and brought up a bar code scanner. I centered it on the barcode and, ching, it registered the product without me hitting a button. I hit check out, it asked for my iTunes password, and showed me the final receipt. It also emailed it to me.

Brilliant. Will have to try this soon.

We’ve been big fans of Mint for awhile. But haven’t really found great use of Mint’s iPhone app… until now. The ability to “enter cash or pending transactions in the app right at the time of purchase” is key when you’re trying to track your cash outflow. It can also “split from last ATM” withdrawal. Brilliant.

So far, the Spartan Daily has based most of its assignments on campus landmarks and events. Each assignment is worth a specific karma score. This week, students who make the app’s leaderboard are eligible for a free doughnut from Psycho Donuts.

Some may argue that donuts are better than peanuts. But jeez.

Introducing Word Lens (via QuestVisual)

This is incredible. And based on the iTunes reviews, it’s pretty solid. The app itself is free but you have to buy the language packs. Makes sense to me. This is very exciting.

Both Instapaper and Flipboard remain on my iPad dock as well as NYTimes and Reeder. Easily the go to Apps for my iPad use.

I have to agree, Flipboard is the first app I launch (next to NYTimes for iPad, of course) when I’m ready to sit down for a few minutes to find out what’s going on.
